Visa’s Growing Crypto Arm
Despite holding a market capitalization of more than $500 billion, the payments giant is trying to reposition itself amid the turmoil of financial technology and a world of rapid digital transformation.
The strategy extends to cryptocurrency. In recent years, it has built relationships with crypto entities Coinbase, Circle, and FTX, among others, with the goal of making it easier for these platforms to purchase products and services with their cryptocurrency. This also gives Visa new revenue opportunities.
In July, Visa revealed that it has partnered with at least 50 cryptocurrency platforms via card programs that “facilitate digital currency conversion and spending at 70 million merchants worldwide.”
Moreover, in the first half of this year, the company revealed that it has facilitated more than $1 billion in transactions via crypto-linked Visa cards.
Earlier this year, Visa doubled its crypto business unit with five appointments and one strategic appointment.
