Payments giant Visa has announced a program to help creators create and sell non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Visa will work with Micah Johnson

Visa plans to select, sponsor and provide advisory services to a group of creatives.

It will also build links between these NFT creators and its own network of payment partners. Cuy Sheffield, Head of Crypto at Visa, noted that the company will help participants “navigate both crypto and traditional payment infrastructure.”

Visa will partner with former MLB player Micah Johnson, creator of the Aku NFT series, to run the program. The chain sold $2 million in tokens in a 28-hour auction this year. Its main character, a young black astronaut in an oversized space helmet, was cast for film and television in April.

Johnson noted, “NFTs gave me an opportunity to build a community of people interested in supporting my work – in a way that goes beyond just liking or sharing.”

Other NFT efforts

Visa recently purchased CryptoPunks NFT for its own collection of financial artifacts for $150,000. The announcement hinted that Visa would introduce new NFT services such as those announced today.

The news also comes shortly after crypto exchange Coinbase announced that it will create a marketplace for NFT.

Other companies including Ripple and TikTok have also announced their NFT plans.
